I had thyroid cancer in May,
2003. I had a complete thyroidectomy. It is a
complex surgery, as the neck has a lot of delicate,
intertwined and important structures. Mine went very
well. Here are some names, etc. from my experience:
My cancer was biopsied and diagnosed by Dr. Peter
Sklarin at Menlo Medical Clinic (phone is 498-6655 -
his nurse is Louann). He referred me to Dr. David
Gregg for the surgery and then Dr. Ian McDougall at
Stanford for the Nuclear Radiation follow up.
Dr. Gregg is a general surgeon at Menlo Medical
Clinic, and is a senior surgeon at Stanford. He is
highly regarded by the Stanford doctors - I know
because I asked around about him. He has done many
thyroidectomies and has never had a problem. I got
great care from him and my scar looks fantastic now
because he used plastic surgery to close it. His
number is 498-6635 and his nurse is Julie.
Dr.McDougall is one of the top world experts on thyroid
cancer. You can't get any better than him for thyroid
issues! Dr. McDougall's phone number
is 723-6883, then press 2.

Dr. Orlo Clark at UCSF is one of the top
endocrinologist surgeons in the US. He's
brilliant and amazing. It's important to
to get a top-knotch endocrinologist surgeon because of
the parathyroid glands. They
are not to be removed, unless, of course, they have to
be.

I had thyroid surgery in 1996 at Stanford. My surgeon
was Ron Weigel, and we were happy with him.
